Welcome to Number

We all know that the Mid-South has a rich history in the musical arts. What may not always be evident are the vibrant visual arts communities of the South. The free visual arts journal Number: was created in 1987, to bring a voice and presence to vital communities of visual artists, arts organizations, and art enthusiasts.

Number:Inc is the grassroots, volunteer run organization that keeps this free publication available. Through the commitment and dedication of a few, Number: celebrates, critiques, educates, informs, and advocates for the arts and artists of our communities. In the quarterly print journal and online, we publish news of the visual arts to a broad audience. We invite our readers to engage in a public discourse on the visual arts they encounter in their area. Through our social media sites, you the reader can take an active role in the conversations about Southern art.

On behalf of the board of directors, I welcome you to the journal Number: and our organization. If you find yourself intrigued by this publication, you can join our efforts to keep this valuable resource alive and extend the reach of our small non-profit. By volunteering, writing, advertising, or subscribing you play an important role in promoting visual arts, artists, and arts organizations of the region.
