Visiting Artist John Harlan Norris will present an artist talk surrounding his exhibition “Cons and Pros,” currently on view in Memphis College of Art’s Rust Hall Main Gallery through Nov. 8. Through his work, Norris explores a contemporary perspective on occupational portraiture, which historically described its subjects through the lens of their daily working lives. In “Cons and Pros,” Norris unveiled a new portrait series titled “Disintegrants”—an exploration into the elusive and abstract interior structures that form the psyche and notions of self. Featured works include oil paintings, works on paper and mixed media works incorporating digital inkjet printing.
