L Ross Gallery is pleased to announce the first Memphis exhibition for artists Anne Davey and Jil Evans. The exhibition runs March 1 – 31 with a reception honoring the artists Friday, March 2, 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
Memphis artist Anne Davey’s series of paintings and charcoal drawings imagine encounters with the Nereids, the daughters of Nereus, who were divine inhabitants of the sea as described in Iliad 18.35-69. They appear as figures at home in the waves but obscured for the viewer by the distorting movement of water and light.
Davey earned her BA from Stanford University and her MFA from Johnson State College and the Vermont Studio Center.
Minneapolis painter Jil Evans creates abstract work in oil on panel that suggest the way intimacy, alienation, struggle, and freedom exist in the psyche in a constant state of flux.
